Oma’s Butter Frosting

No matter what you might have heard elsewhere, frosting is the key to great cakes and Christmas cookies. I might be a little biased, but there’s no better frosting than my mother’s Butter Frosting.  She frosted cakes, made from scratch, for every birthday until I left for college using this simple but delicious recipe.  My favorite was the green turtle-shaped cake she made for my 5th birthday.  I’m not sure why she added shaved coconut to the frosting, but it was delicious nonetheless.  As good as the cakes were, this recipe is much more famous on her sugar and gingerbread Christmas cookies.
